Amazing Fun Facts About University of Missouri Football

The Missouri Tigers football program started all the way back in 1890. Wow. 1890 was a crazy year. That year John Owen was the first person to break the 10 second barrier for the 100 yard dash.

“10 seconds? What, in those days did they run with dead fish tied to their legs?”

The Tigers were coached by Clifford Douglas “Pop” Bliss in 1895 where he led them to a 7-1 record. Bliss played halfback for Yale in undefeated seasons in 1891 and 1892. Opponents did not score a single point against Yale in those two seasons.

“That’s because we moved their end zone to downtown New Haven. By the time they got half way, they were too tuckered out to score.”

As of 2015, Missouri has won 4 Orange Bowls, 3 Cotton Bowls, 2 Sugar Bowls, 1 Fiesta Bowl.

“And a partridge in a pear tree. But the partridge is shaped like a football.”
