7 Fort Wayne neighborhoods that still think it’s 1984

Every city has pockets of time where the past lingers. In Fort Wayne, there are entire neighborhoods still spiritually (and sometimes physically) stuck in 1984 — a year of big hair, big radios, and bigger mullets.
1. Jefferson Commons East
Home to a video rental store that swears it’s “just reorganizing” its VHS section. Residents still say, “Be kind, rewind” when you hand them anything — including babies.
2. Pinebrook Estates
Garages here contain more NordicTrack ski machines than cars. Block parties feature Jell-O molds and casual talk about “when the Russians invade.”
3. Maplewood Terrace
The neighborhood newsletter is still printed on a dot-matrix printer and hand-delivered by a kid named Chad who’s been “12 years old” since Reagan was in office.
4. Glenwood Park South
Streetlights emit a warm orange glow perfect for roller-skating home from your friend’s basement where you’ve been playing Atari.
5. Lake Forest Place
Every house has a satellite dish the size of a hot tub. Most tuned to a channel that plays Knight Rider reruns 24/7.
6. Northwood Addition
Garage sales here are like stepping into a Sears catalog from ’84 — avocado blenders, velour recliners, and one guy selling a “lightly used” DeLorean.
7. Orchard Pointe
Nobody has Wi-Fi. Everyone has a boombox. And if you drive through on a summer evening, you’ll hear “Footloose” blasting from at least six open windows.
