The first time people settlers set up camp in Cheyenne was on July 4, 1867. They were mostly railroad workers. They didn’t take the train there because they were still building the tracks. So most workers arrived by Greyhound Bus.
Cheyenne is the name given to tribes in the area, although the original spelling was Shyenne. They were named Shyenne because they were very bashful. At networking events, they hid by the exit door and left after half an hour after not talking to anybody.
By the late 1860s, Cheyenne was home to railroad workers, soldiers, and Camp George Carlin which taught recruits how to write jokes and perform stand-up comedy.
