But it’s better than office work you can’t deny
I wrote this country song after talking with a charming old fellow at the gas station/ convenience store/ roller rink near my house.
I clock in at the corner store
Greeting every face that walks through the door
Slapping stickers on the newspaper stand
Selling cigarettes and candy bars by the can
It’s a simple life, but it’s all mine
Working at the convenience store all the time
I don’t make much, but I get by
But it’s better than office work you can’t deny
I sweep up the floors and mop up the spills
Sell a little bit of everything, from aspirin to Tylenol pills
I’ve seen it all, from love to hate
But I just smile and try not to agitate
It’s a simple life, but it’s all mine
Working at the convenience store all the time
I don’t make much, but I get by
But it’s better than office work you can’t deny
Sometimes I dream of something more
But for now, I’ll keep on working at the corner store
I may not be rich, but I’ve got my pride
And I’ll keep on working with my dog by my side
It’s a simple life, but it’s all mine
Working at the convenience store all the time
I don’t make much, but I get by
But it’s better than office work you can’t deny
