Letter of Paul to the Denverites
Dear fellow believers in Denver,
Greetings to you in the name of our Lord. I am writing to you from Grand Junction, where I am currently on the phone arguing with a charge card company about some dubious charges.
Anyway, I have kept tabs on your community and the challenges you face, and I wanted to encourage you to stand strong in your beliefs, no matter what comes your way. I don’t know how you can live so close to sky with air thinner than a supermodel on a diet of Pepsi and cornflakes.
As you know, living as a Christian in these times is not easy. There are many who do not understand our faith, and who even seek to persecute us for it. But we must remember that our reward is not in this world, but in the world to come. We must hold fast to the truth of the gospel, and trust in God’s promise of eternal life. This is especially true when I consider the challenges you have with fake news. I mean, I love a good conspiracy theory as the next apostle. For the longest time, I totally believed the earth was flat. Until I saw a special on Discovery Channel and was blown away. Science, amiright?
I know that you face many challenges in your community, and that it can be difficult to stay true to your faith when surrounded by temptation after temptation. But remember that you are not alone. You are part of a global community of believers, and we are all united in our beliefs. I do realize many in Denver cannot resist the temptation to drive 85 in a 65 zone, but if you abide by the law and go 65 you could get run over. Such are the demands of the realities of the world. I understand your challenges.
I remember seeing five neighborhoods in Denver when I was there – Capitol Hill, Five Points, LoDo, RiNo, and Uptown – and I pray that the gospel will continue to spread throughout each of these communities even though the traffic is more tangled then the plot of any episode of “Yellowstone.” May the love of Christ be evident in all that you do, and may his grace be with you as you face the challenges of living as a Christian in today’s world.
As for any Super Bowl chances for the Broncos in the next two decades, my scribe and I have had quite the argument about the chances of the Denver Broncos even getting to the big game. I must admit, I am not a sports fan, but my scribe insists that the Broncos have a strong chance if they play their cards right. However, I remind him that in the end, it is not about winning a game, but about using our talents and abilities for the glory of God — and getting a franchise quarterback to lead your Broncos to Super Bowl victory, even if it takes until year 3032.
So I encourage you to be strong, and to continue to share the good news of the gospel with those around you. Do not be afraid to stand up for your beliefs, even when it is difficult. And know that you are always in my prayers, as I am in yours.
May the Lord bless and keep you, and may his grace be with you in Denver.
