Cars and Traffic

Oh, no, fool, you’re not getting away from me!

Just before noon, I was heading north on Front Street when a speeding minivan in front of me swerved to the right just as a lady parked on the side opened her SUV’s driver door.

BAAAAAAAMMM!!

The minivan smashed the door, wrenching it backwards and sending a wave of glass cascading over the street. Glancing as I passed, I could see the driver was OK.

I captured it all on my dashcam. The minivan slowed as if they were going to stop and then took off. I followed. I thought at least I’ll make sure I get the license plate.

One problem: No license plate.

Now what? Do I keep following them? Are they armed?

What happened next seemed like a movie. I looked in the rear view mirror and guess who was coming up fast, the driver door hanging in the road, barely attached and kicking up sparks!

I pulled over to let her pass and she quickly caught up with the minivan. So I pulled in behind her to keep recording!

The minivan turned left at the next light, the SUV with the wrong-way door barely holding on like a comedy bear swinging from a runaway circus wagon followed, and I bought up the rear like a Hollywood film crew working a Fast and Furious 27 stunt.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t keep up because the minivan started blowing red lights and the SUV stayed right behind.

After I got going again on the green light, I looked around a bit to see if I could find them, but no luck. My guess is they got on the 607 freeway and ghosted.

Columbus, you are crazy.
