Ron DeSantis and Mickey Mouse watch the Biden/ Trump debate

(Thursday Morning – 06-27-24 – DISNEY WORLD) It’s a balmy evening at Disney World, and the VIP lounge has been transformed into a cozy viewing area for the highly-anticipated 2024 presidential debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump tonight. Sitting side by side on plush armchairs are two unlikely companions: Ron DeSantis, former Florida governor, and Mickey Mouse, the beloved Disney icon.

DeSantis, sporting a bright red shirt with “It’s a MAGA World After All” emblazoned across the front, relaxes with a churro in hand. Beside him, Mickey Mouse, wearing a baseball cap that reads “Make Florida Gator Again,” adjusts his ears and settled in for the show.

As they wait for the debate to commence, the two exchange glances and chuckles at the political theatrics about to go down. It is a surreal sight – the politician and the cartoon mouse, united in their shared love for Disney magic and a good political showdown.

“Ron, you know,” Mickey began, his high-pitched voice filled with earnestness, “politics sure can be a wild ride, huh? But at the end of the day, we’re all just trying to make folks happy.”

DeSantis nods, taking a sip of his soda. “You’re right, Mickey. We’ve had our differences, especially with everything going on. But that’s just politics. At the heart of it, my family and I secretly love Disney World. It’s always been our little escape.”

Gosh, Ron, that means a lot. You know, this place is all about bringing joy to families. I’m glad to hear you and your family find some magic here.”

DeSantis smiles, feeling a weight lift off his shoulders. “Yeah, my kids can’t get enough of it. The rides, the shows, the churros – it’s all part of the experience. And you know what? I forgive you for any past turmoil. Politics is politics, but this –” he gestured around the enchanting room, “– this is special.”

Mickey nods vigorously. “Absolutely! And, Ron, you’re still young. You’ve got plenty of time to run for President again. Don’t let this year’s race get you down. There’s always next time.”

DeSantis chuckles, feeling a renewed sense of hope. “Thanks, Mickey. That means a lot coming from you. Who knows? Maybe next time I’ll come back with a new campaign and a fresh perspective.”

The two new friends share stories and laugh together, finding common ground in their love for Disney and their hopes for the future. It is a night of unexpected camaraderie and forgiveness, set against the backdrop of the happiest place on Earth.

DeSantis felt lighter, his heart full of renewed optimism. As Ron stands to use the facilities, Mickey extends a gloved hand. “Here’s to new beginnings and a bit of Disney magic in politics.”

DeSantis shakes his hand firmly, smiling. “Here’s to that, Mickey. And next time, let’s invite Donald Duck. He could use a good debate night.”

With that, the former governor and the iconic waited patiently for Donald Trump and Joe Biden to yell at each other for 60 minutes. Each feels a little more hopeful about the future – both in politics and in the magic of Disney World.
