Walk offs and pillow fights
10-13. Today in sports history. 1960. The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the New York Yankees 10-9 in Game 7 of the World Series, thanks to Bill Mazeroski’s dramatic walk-off home run in the bottom of the 9th inning. This was the first and only time a World Series Game 7 ended with a home run, and it secured the Pirates’ first championship since 1925.
That wasn’t the only battle in 1960. On April 15, 1960, a pillow fight broke out in the US House of Representatives. Congressmen were discussing a bill when Representative Charles Bennett started swinging a pillow at Representative James Quigley.
