Whataburger hands out samples to cars in line at California In-N-Out locations
Joe Rogan, possibly the most popular podcaster in the world right now, is the latest in a string of Hollywood personalities who have left California for Texas. And it’s not just showbiz types. In 2018, more than 86,000 people left the Golden State for the wide open spaces of Texas. In fact, Texas has 5 of the 10 fastest-growing cities in the country.
Whataburger, Texas citizen’s favorite hamburger chain, believes many more people would come to Texas if they knew how good a Whataburger tastes.
To prove it, secret teams of Whataburger evangelists have stationed themselves next to lines of cars leaving In-N-Out restaurants.
In-N-Out is a similarly wildly popular restaurant with California locals, so much so that travelers often get off the plane at LAX and immediately head to the insanely busy In-N-Out restaurant near the airport to get a fix of hometown flavor.
The Whataburger teams hand out samples of their most popular items including Whataburgers, Patty Melts, Hatch Green Chile Burgers, and Whatachicken Sandwiches.
You might be thinking In-N-Out probably doesn’t enjoy competitors stealing customers.
That’s why the Whataburger teams went undercover, pretending they were a “get out the vote” group from local colleges.
As soon as a car slowed down as they exited, the Whataburger staff handed drivers and passengers bags of food labeled “How To Register and Vote in California.”
Company spokesperson Gerald R. Whataburger said their marketing surveys show more people would leave California for Texas if they knew there was something better than In-N-Out. Henry RiseandShine from the American Guerilla Marketing Association called it “brilliant marketing.”
For their part, In-N-Out officials said they were aware of the effort, but were too busy handling the 4,000 cars in line every day at every location to worry about it.
