3 Super-Challenging Summer Activities in Cleveland You Can Say You Tried But Failed

Hello everybody! How are you? Summer is well underway but it’s not over and there are three super challenging activities you can drive if you’re in the Cleveland area this August.

Ohio Turnpike 275-mile Marathon

The first on our list is the Ohio Turnpike 275-mile marathon.

Every August the state of Ohio blocks off the Ohio Turnpike which runs of course from Pennsylvania to Indiana and vice versa Indiana to Pennsylvania.

You can run from Cleveland where the turnpike cuts just south of town 275 miles west. If you can make that, you’re not only an athlete, you’re a super athlete!

Parma Heights to Brook Park Big Belly Army Crawl

Number two is the Parma Heights to Brook Park Big Belly Army Crawl.

We’ve all done the army crawl when we were kids. Or maybe you did it because you were actually in the military.

Here’s a secret: you don’t necessarily have to have a big belly to participate.

But the idea is to promote fitness and they want to get the people out there that maybe need a few extra calories burned.

You crawl on your belly from Parma Heights to Brook Park.

It takes a long time; in fact, last year’s winner did it in three weeks.

So you can have to set aside part of your summer.

Talk to your boss at work. Find out how much vacation time you have.

But if you’re interested in doing the crawl, you’re need that plenty of time to complete it.

Pro tip: get sponsors to cover all of your expenses.

Cleveland Lakefront Oil Drum Regatta

Finally, number three is the Cleveland Lakefront Oil Drum Regatta.

Everybody knows Cleveland has cleaned up the lakefront.

They used to get all the jokes.

The “mistake on the lake.”

It caught fire at one time from all of the pollution in the water.

That’s all gone.  That’s history. That was years ago.

But the oil drums from those days when solvents were transported along the lakefront are empty and they’re still there.

The city worked closely with environmental groups to make sailboats out of the old oil drums.

Professional sailors run the Oil Drum Regatta every August off the shore of Cleveland, just off downtown.

There is a division for every person. Don’t worry.

They’ll teach you how to make your own sailboat out of empty oil drums.

Then you enter one of the amateur races.

Folks, those are three super-challenging activities in Cleveland you can try this summer — even if you fail.
