5 promposals that went horribly wrong

A “promposal” is a portmanteau of the words “prom” and “proposal.” It refers to the act of asking someone to be your date to the prom (a formal dance often held for high school students) in a creative, elaborate, or unique way. Promposals have gained popularity in recent years, particularly in the United States, and often involve grand gestures or surprises that go beyond a simple verbal invitation. These can include things like staged events, special performances, custom signs or artwork, and even public displays involving friends, family, or the community. The goal of a promposal is typically to surprise and delight the person being asked, making the invitation to prom a memorable and special experience.

All well and good, EXCEPT when they go horribly wrong as in these 5 examples.

The Zoo Catastrophe

Jake decided to ask his crush, Sarah, to prom by arranging a special moment at the local zoo. He planned to have the zookeeper bring out their most gentle llama, wearing a sign saying, “Will you go to prom with me?” However, the plan backfired when the llama, unaccustomed to such romantic endeavors, panicked and sprinted through the zoo, leading Jake on a wild llama chase, eventually being found munching on the zoo director’s prized tulips, with the sign chewed to bits.

The Flash Mob Fiasco

Emily thought it would be epic to organize a flash mob at the mall to ask her boyfriend to prom. She spent weeks planning and recruiting dancers. On the big day, as the flash mob began, another group, mistakenly thinking it was a random dance challenge, joined in with completely different music and dance moves. The result was a chaotic, uncoordinated dance battle that ended with the mall’s security mistaking it for a bizarre protest and escorting everyone out, including a very confused boyfriend who still had no idea he was being asked to prom.

The Baked Proposal

Kevin, an aspiring baker, decided to bake a giant cookie with the promposal written in icing. However, he mistyped the temperature, baking it at 500 degrees instead of 350. The cookie didn’t just burn; it set off the school’s fire alarm during finals week, leading to a school-wide evacuation and a very unamused principal. The charred cookie was later found by the fire department, who were the only ones to actually see the promposal.

The Skywriting Miscommunication

Lisa hired a skywriter to spell out “Will You Go To Prom With Me, Alex?” Unfortunately, the skywriter was not familiar with the area and ended up displaying the message over a different high school, where coincidentally, another Alex was contemplating asking his own date to prom. This led to a bewildering situation with two Alexes, two schools, and a very embarrassed Lisa explaining the mix-up over social media.

The Serenade Slip-Up

Tom decided to serenade his potential date, Mia, under her window with a guitar. What he didn’t know was that Mia had switched rooms with her grandmother for the week. As Tom passionately sang a love ballad, Mia’s grandmother, thinking she had a secret admirer, responded with a serenade of her own. The situation turned into an impromptu duet between Tom and Mia’s grandmother, with Mia recording the whole event and turning it into a viral video titled “Grandma’s Got Game.”
