5 Ways to Be a Better Listener

You’ll do better with people and grow as a person if you can improve your listening skills. Consider trying these five tips.

1. When someone is talking, don’t say, “Hold on a sec there, Champ, my phone is vibrating like a dime-store recliner during an earthquake.”

2. When a coworker comes up with some new ideas to grow your business, don’t respond with, “Gee, that’s a great idea. Too bad United Ginormous Co. tried it in 1995 and it killed them within three years.”

3.When your kid babbles on about their day, don’t interrupt with, “Wow, what a crazy day you had. I mean REALLY CRAZY. Me? I was out making money so you can eat.”

4.When your mother-in-law is telling you how her jam won an award at the neighborhood Founder’s Day event, don’t say, “I’m proud of you Gertrude, I really am. I mean not as proud as when I got an award in 5th grade for loudest fart, but I am proud.”

5.When your boss Irene beings yelling at you for not listening to her instructions, don’t respond, “You are right. You make very good points and I take them to heart. I want us all to succeed. I’ll strive to be better, Dolores.”
