Is Chris Rock There?

What if your brand new cell phone had the old phone number of a celebrity? A few years ago a guy bought a new phone and it had Chris Rock‘s phone number. He started getting calls. It might have gone like this:

Timothy, a mild-mannered accountant, had just bought a sleek new smartphone. As he was setting it up, the first call came in. Excited to try out the call clarity, he answered, “Hello?”

“Yo, Chris! It’s Kevin. Man, you still up for that prank on Dave tonight?” The voice on the other end was unmistakably Kevin Hart’s. Timothy was taken aback.

“Uh, I think you have the wrong number,” Timothy responded.

Kevin laughed. “Man, stop playing! Remember the plan? The one with the three-legged llama and the inflatable pool?”

Timothy, intrigued and wanting to play along, said, “Oh, right! The llama! Totally forgot. So, are we still meeting at midnight?”

Kevin, clearly buying it, said, “You know it! Don’t be late, and don’t forget the llama treats!”

Throughout the day, Timothy received multiple calls – one from an annoyed pizza place confirming an order of 100 pineapple pizzas, another from an ice sculptor asking about the dimensions for a life-sized giraffe, and yet another from someone named Tiffany Haddish, who just laughed for a solid minute before hanging up.

The most unexpected call, however, was from someone claiming to be the President. “Chris, I heard about your comedy special. Hilarious stuff! Wanted to see if you’d be interested in performing at the White House.”

Timothy, trying to maintain his composure, replied, “Well, Mr. President, I’ve always wanted to make the Secret Service laugh. Count me in!”

As the day wore on, Timothy became more emboldened, taking every call with enthusiasm. However, when he received a call from an unknown overseas number, things took a strange turn.

“Chris? It’s the Queen. I’ve heard so much about your skits. Fancy performing at Buckingham Palace?”

“I would be honored. But might I suggest a duet with Sir Elton John? A comedic musical, perhaps?”

The Queen chuckled, “Splendid idea! I’ll have my people call Elton’s people.”

As the sun set, Timothy’s phone buzzed one last time. It was an incoming video call. Hesitant, Timothy answered. To his surprise, it was Chris Rock himself.

“Man, why you playin’ with my phone number?” Chris laughed.

Timothy replied, “I might have taken a few liberties.”

Chris chuckled, “Nah, don’t worry about it. I’m going to use this on stage.”
