Relationships and Dating

It’s not a betrayal, bro

Recently on Reddit a poster explained he started dating a girl when they were both 16 but agreed to break up at 18 when they went to college. He was shocked and disappointed when he returned from his freshman year to find his twin brother was now dating his ex-girlfriend. Even worse, they were getting married!

He wanted to know if he was being a jerk because he refused to attend the wedding.

Wait, he won’t go to the wedding because his brother asked out his ex?

Bro, it’s not a betrayal — you resigned from the job. OK, it was a mutual resignation. But you were both free agents. Your ex was free and clear.

Sure, it stings she decided to go with someone who looks and sounds exactly like you but is not you. Look at it from her perspective. He may even have the same pizza and movie preferences, so it’s much easier on her. She doesn’t have to go through those annoying first months in a relationship when you have to learn all about a new person. How tiring.

Here’s what you do, my friend. Find one of your twin’s ex-girlfriends and ask her out.
