Electric Scooter Rider Drowns After Attempting Ride Over Water to Catalina Island

An electric scooter rider in Santa Monica, CA, attempted to ride his scooter across the top of the ocean separating Los Angeles from Catalina Island. He fell shortly after entering the water, slipped beneath the shallow waves and drowned.

“A tourist attempted an ill-fated trip to Catalina Island last night,” said Santa Monica police chief Sam Igottacoolcap. “He apparently thought he could ride the scooter everywhere, even “on top” of the unpredictable part of the Pacific off our beaches. He didn’t go far, fell and went under.”

The man, who name has not been released, was seen riding his electric scooter all over Santa Monica and Venice the day of the accident. “That guy told me he loves them dang scooters and was going to ride them everywhere he dang pleased,” said hair salon owner Ida Swirltop. “No helmet, nothing, just riding around like a nut.”
