The Netherlands battles senior loneliness with unique checkout lane solution

In the Netherlands, they’ve come up with a unique solution at the grocery store to battle loneliness among senior citizens. The “Chatter Checkout” lane lets them chat at length with a cheery cashier to add some brightness to their day.

The ‘Chatter Checkout’ also introduces the ‘Grandkid Gallery’ – because pulling out wallets is so last century.

The ‘Chatter Checkout’ now comes with a ‘Did You Remember?’ list – top of the list: ‘Why you came in here in the first place.’

They thought of offering free birthday cakes in the ‘Chatter Checkout’ lane. First question: ‘Do we have enough fire insurance?’

The ‘Chatter Checkout’ now comes with a loyalty program: tell the same story five times, and the sixth retelling comes with a free coffee to help the cashier stay awake.

Of course seniors get tired waiting for their comrades to chatter away. That’s why the created the ‘Queue Recliner.’ Get comfy, because Margaret’s about to recount her entire cruise trip from ’89.

In related news, the ‘Silent Self-Checkout’ for introverts has never been busier.
