10 crazy sports you’ll only see in Dallas

Dallas has some wild sports you are not going to find anyplace else. Here are just a few.

Lone Star Lassoing

Teams compete to lasso mock cattle in the shortest time. Each cow bears a different symbol of Texan heritage oil derricks, the Alamo, longhorns, etc. The more significant the symbol, the higher the points.

Tex-Net

Imagine tennis, but with cowboy boots and a net made of intertwined bluebonnet stems. The ball? A stuffed armadillo, of course.

Prairie Parkour

An urban obstacle course set in Dallas’s iconic cityscape spots. Athletes perform acrobatic jumps and tricks while incorporating elements of the Texan landscape like hay bales, oil barrels, and cattle fences.

Mesquite Relay

Teams carry a log of mesquite wood through a challenging track. The catch? The log has to be passed between team members without letting it touch the ground, all while being pursued by a mock steer.

Rodeo Rugby

A twist on traditional rugby. Players ride horses and must score by getting a leather ball into a hoop at the opposing team’s end. Extra points for style and roping skills!

Boot Scootin’ Soccer

Soccer, but players must wear cowboy boots. This adds a challenge in ball control and also an element of strategy as players can use their boot’s tip to achieve unique ball spins.

Tornado Touchdown

A combination of football and relay racing, where teams must score touchdowns against the opposing team while navigating through a field with giant fans blowing wind in random directions, simulating the challenging Texas tornadoes.

Horned Lizard Hurdles

Hurdle racing, but the hurdles are shaped like Texas’s iconic horned lizards. Athletes must leap over these and occasionally dodge mock “spurts” of water (the lizard’s defense mechanism).

Oil Derrick Climbing

A unique sport where athletes scale mock oil derricks. The aim is to reach the top and “strike oil” (a button that releases a gush of water) before competitors.

Alamo Archery

Archers shoot arrows at targets shaped like historic figures and scenes from the Battle of the Alamo. Bonus points for hitting critical targets like Davy Crockett’s coonskin cap.
