Here’s how to win the US Open for everyday Joes

So you want to play in the US Open Championship. First you have to get in to the tournament! You have to have a handicap of at least 1.4. That’s not the number of beers per hole.

Next you enter a local qualifier staged at 100 courses around the country. You are up against 9000 hopefuls like yourself. Expect around 900 to make it the next stage, the Sectional, which is the final test.

The Sectional is held at 13 different courses. You’ll play 36 holes in a single day a week before The Open. Anywhere from 30 to 60 golfers will get an invite to the big match, less than one percent of the original 9000.

In other words, forget this golf fever dream and watch it on TV.
