This Guy Loves To Set Guinness World Records

Ashrita Furman just set the Guinness World Record for slicing the most watermelons on your own stomach in one minute.

But that’s not all. He also holds the world record for slicing watermelons on someone else’s stomach in under one minute.

Who at the family picnic wants a watermelon slice that was cut on some guy’s stomach? No one. But I digress.

There’s more! Ashrita also:

-earned his first Guinness World Record in 1979 by completing 27,000 jumping jacks.

-set the record for underwater pogo stick jumping in 1986.

-set the record for running a mile while balancing a milk bottle on his head.

-created a giant 76-foot long pencil with 4000 pounds of graphite.

-set the record for running on stilts the fastest.

-completed a distance sack race against a yak in Mongolia.

-rowed 1500 miles in 16 days.

-set the record for jumping rope on a pogo stick.

-became the first person to hold 100 Guinness World Records at the same time in 2009.

-completed the most games of hopscotch in 24 hours.

-recorded the fastest mile of somersaults.

-carried a brick with one hand the longest continuous distance.

-completed the fastest marathon race using only skipping.

-built the largest popcorn sculpture.

-set the record for underwater hula hooping.

-set the record for fastet mile while balancing a ppol cue on your chin.

-created the world’s largest tennis racket.

-used a samurai sword to set the record for cutting apples in midair in one minute.

Whew.

As you can see, Ashrita is a Guinness World Record fanatic. He learned about the record book as a kid, as has devoted much of his life setting as many records as possible since then.

While hula-hooping underwater, cutting apples in midair, and running while balancing a pool cue on your face is cool, I can think of a few other records Ashrita should set his sights on. How about trying to beat the world record for:

-most lies told in a 24 hour period. Currently held by the U.S. Congress.

-biggest drop in a company stock based on a tweet by Kendall Jenner.

-number of times KISS has a “final tour.” Current record: 45 times.

-the number of names floated by Democrats as possible contenders against Trump in 2020. Current number: 378.

-number of times shady businesses sue customers over negative comments on Yelp.

-number of articles on Buzzfeed that start with “17 Things…” or “25 Ways…”

-number of times your dog tirelessly returns the torn up, soggy tennis ball you’ve been throwing for the past 4 hours.

-number of swears words emitted at your local golf driving range in one hour.

-number of times in the last 20 years you tell yourself you are going to start working out “next week.”
