Special birthday shoutout to Steve Perry of Journey. This picture was taken when Steve and I met backstage at an Audioslave concert in 2006. Chris Cornell introduced us and told Steve I was a writer working on a book called “The 80s: Hairspray, High Boots and High Times in the Most Decadent Decade of Rock and Roll.” We talked about a potential interview but were interrupted by Chris singing an impromptu acapella version of “Fell on Black Days.” I playfully joined in during the chorus and Chris dumped his Frappuccino on my head.
